The Red Ant Security Relocation & Eviction Services launched the Vendor and Skills Development Project on the 30th of November 2017. The event which was hosted at their Red Farms Agri-Park in the South of Johannesburg marked the official start of the project. The Vendor and Skills Development Project is a noble initiative created by the Red Ants Agri-Park to empower previously disadvantaged individuals in our local communities to become entrepreneurs. Individuals enrolled in the program are trained on principles of business and agriculture at the Red Ants Training Academy, and sponsored with start-up resources upon completion of training. They are then given Fresh Produce from the Red Farms Agri-Park including Vegetables, packaged and processed Meats, in-house produced Sauces, Dairy and Poultry products to setup their own stalls and small vendor shops.
Through a carefully synchronized program the Vendors are assisted to procure stock on a continuous basis and at very affordable prices. This allows them a reasonable margin of profit which they use to grow their businesses and make a living. This project was piloted for a number of years by the Red Ants before being launched officially in 2017. Most important on this project is the Skills Development aspect as it provides a platform for individuals to gain skills which they can use beyond their business relationship with the Red Ants.
The Red Farms Agri-Park has received immense support from various Government Spheres including National and local structures. Addressing the attendees at the Launch, Minister of trade and Industry Hon. Rob Davies encouraged the Red Ants to expand the program as it was a wonderful program that could help reduce poverty in our communities if expanded countrywide. His words were supported by Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land reform Hon. Candith Mashego-Dlamini, Gauteng Provincial Economic Development MEC Mr. Lebogang Maile and Gauteng Provincial Social Development MEC Ms. Nandi Mayathula-Khoza.
